Offered for sale is a large and stylish Drostdy ceramic vase dating to the mid 20th Century circa 1950's or 60's. The vase is made from a off white coloured earthenware and is slip cast from a metal mold ; the vase is glazed in a vibrant mustard yellow with a gloss finish and is hand painted with a San Bushman motif depicting hunters with bows and arrows and knobkieries and animals including antelope possibly Eland or kudu, and ostriches . The base of the vase has impressed numbers probably a code or serial number for the vase shape. Drostdy ceramics were made in the Eastern Cape in Grahamstown during the 1950's and 60's; Drostdy was a company which was established by Grahamstown Potteries and had a comparatively short life span closing in the 1960's.
