The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) made its worldwide debut with the release of the Base Set expansion in 1999. The classic Gen 1 card set featured some of Kanto's most popular Pokémon such as Blastoise, Mewtwo, and Alakazam. However, the card every kid in the '90s wanted was the rare  which featured artwork from renowned Creatures Inc artist Mitsuhiro Arita.
The  saw a major revival in popularity in 2022 with the 9th generation of trading cards being released in Feb 2022, and now there are many Pokémon cards worth a lot of money. Despite being worth little decades ago, there are many Pokémon cards that now sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars
