Large Hand Painted Chinese Porcelain Planter Featuring Geishas 27cm Diam 21cm High  

A VINTAGE MID TWENTIETH CENTURY CHINESE PORCELAIN PLANTER. IT FEATURES A HAND PAINTED SCENE OF CHINESE WOMEN IN TRADITIONAL ATTIRE WITH SOME PLAYING MUSICAL INTRUMENTS. IT IS SET AGAINST A LANDSCAPE WITH A BRIDGE AND CHERRY BLOSSOMING TREES.
 
THE ACCENTS OF THE FOLIAGE AND GARMENTS AND OTHER STRUCTURES MOSTLY IN DARKISH GREEN AND BURGUNDY RED ARE HANDPAINTED IN AN ACRYLLIC PAINT. ALL THE DOTS THAT YOU SEE 9WHITE CHERRY BLOSSOMS; YELLOW AND WHITE FLOWERS ON GARMENTS ARE HANDPAINTED IN ENAMEL.
 
DONE IN THE STYLE OF THE QING DYNASTY IT IS FINISHED OFF WITH GOLD OUTLINES AND TRIMS ON THE RIM.
 
Traditionally, these types of porcelain bowls were used to temporarily display or keep goldfish and koi in winter, with the fish spending most of their time in ponds. Today, they are widely used as decorative planters for small trees, flowers, or bonsai, or as standalone decorative accents indoors and outdoors.
