LARGE HEAVY OPAL & GARNET 9ct GOLD RING.
1975 BIRMINGHAM HALLMARK!
This is a wide and really gorgeous opal and garnet ring set in 9ct gold, made in the jewellery quarter of Birmingham, England in 1975. It showcases a central marquise cut garnet (1,26 carats), which has been set between two cabochon oval shaped natural opal gemstones (,0,24 carats) with nice colour play and iridescence. Four 2mm round natural white topaz have been set along the centre of the ring head, separating the main gemstones. The garnet has a wonderful deep wine red colour, which is enhanced beautifully by the rainbow colour display of the opals. The shoulders of the ring have a swirly heart shaped decoration. The ring head is broad, extending 15mm across the finger and 12 mm up the finger. The shank of the ring is wide and very solid - weighing in at 5,2 grams, it's a substantial piece of jewellery! This ring bears the hallmarks for 9ct gold ( 375 ), the Birmingham Assay office, the jeweller's signature, and the date mark for 1975. The ring has been authenticated by an independent jeweller and his certificate for R9'048 will accompany the ring - along with a quality ring box!
