Offered for sale is a fine large Linn Ware carafe or jug vase with an elegant large hooped side handle. This is  a hand made, hand thrown earthenware item made from a red bodied clay. The ring marks from the shaping of the body and neck of the vase are faintly visible underneath the glaze. The carafe is glazed in a beautiful pale celadon glaze with subtle shifts in tone and opacity ; the spout and upper rim of the vase are accented in a dark umber /chocolate brown glaze  and the handle is also slightly blotched and accented in dark brown. The art historian Wendy Gers has noted that the Linn Ware ceramic items are usually glazed and fired  twice or more to achieve the lustrous thick and viscous glaze effects the  Linn Ware studio is famous for ,and which explains the streaks and runs in the glaze effect. This is a particularly well potted item with crisp details and an elegant form. The base is stamped twice with the LW imprint in a circle pressed into the clay with a lug. Height 31cm ; width including handle 19cm .

Courier delivery is recommended, cost approximately R200 for local delivery; collection is welcome from Emmerantia Jhb.
