Large metal container for feature film shipment. PLEASE VIEW DESCRIPTION.

A VERY UNUSUAL ITEM! These heavy metal containers were used by companies like METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER for the shipment of the master copies of new film releases from Los Angeles to Johannesburg via New York. It appears that SAA was the carrier of choice for the New York to Johannesburg leg of the journey. MGM had a Johannesburg office in those days and the master copies of films were duplicated there for distribution within South Africa.

The container is suitable for the housing of three of the old 37cm film reels. It is in good condition but bear the signs of decades of use. Hinges a little tight.  42cmx23cmx40cm in size. Only one item available.
