PLEASE NOTE:

The large Pow'r Pitch is not suitable for young children under the age of seven years. A parent or responsible person must supervise children using Pow'r Pitch at all times.

Description:

The large Pow'r Pitch mat has more surface area (1m x 0.5m), allowing for wider placement of the batsman's  feet when hitting the ball.

The 6m cord length creates a more realistic batting experince as if batting on a full length cricket pitch.

Components:

  • A 6m length of elastic cord
  • A practice ball (not a hard cricket ball) attached to the elastic
  • A mat (1m x 0.5m) made of artificial grass turf, attached to the other end of the elastic

How Pow'r Pitch works:

  1. The Pow'r Pitch mat is placed on a level surface in an open area outdoors with tow-strap facing in direction from which the ball will be pitched.
  2. A Batsman stands on the mat facing in the direction from which the Bowler will pitch the ball. The weight of the Batsman provides the anchoring for the tensioning of the elastic cord.
  3. A Bowler holds the ball in hand and walks backwards, away from the Batsman, until the tension in the elastic cord is just enough to slowly pitch the ball to the batsman. Use a very low stretch first to test the desired speed for the skill level of the batsman.
  4. The ball is then pitched to the batsman using a slight upwards flick of the hand, to make the ball land just in front of the batsman. Variations on how the ball is flicked, either slightly higher or lower, or slightly off to the right or left, can mix up the position where the ball lands allowing the batsman to practise different shots. See Fig 1. and Fig 2. below.
  5. If at any point the Batsman is nervous that the cord has been stretched too far and that the ball will be too fast to hit, the Batsman can simply step off the mat. The stretch in the cord  will immediately be reversed and it will not be possible to pitch the ball.

Important features of the Large Pow'r Pitch Mat:

  1. The Large Pow'r Pitch mat is specifically designed for use in training a more experienced batsman or for just playing a fun game.
  2. The elastic cord is 6m long. When stretched, the Bowler can deliver the ball from a distance of up to 15m away from the bastman. Do not overstretch the elastic as this can result in a very high speed ball!
  3. The batsman must be ready to hit the ball before the bowler releases it.
  4. The batsman has to gain confidence first, in order to safely hit the ball with speed and distance of the delivery.
  5. If at any point the Batsman is nervous that the cord has been stretched too far, the Batsman can simply step off the mat. The stretch in the cord  will immediately be reversed and it will not be possible to pitch the ball.

Important safety notes:

  1. Before using Pow'r Pitch, be aware that the longer the stretch of the elastic cord, the faster the speed of the ball.
  2. The batsman must be ready to hit the ball before the bowler releases it.
  3. The Bowler must initially pitch the ball to the Batsman with NO stretch in the cord to let the Batsman gain confidence in hitting the ball first.
  4. The cord can then gradually be stretched further, until both Batsman and Bowler can judge the speed and bounce of the ball.
  5. For an inexperienced Batsman, there is no need to stretch the cord. The ball can be pitched lightly to the Batsman who can then hit the ball without being nervous.
  6. The weight of the Batsman's body anchors the elastic cord to the Pow'r Pitch mat. Do not use any other object or attachment method to try and anchor the mat or cord.
  7. The Bowler must not pitch the ball before the Batsman is ready as the ball could hit the batsman and cause pain or injury.
  8. Do not stretch the cord to its maximum as this will damage the cord and may lead to snapping and or injury.
  9. The Pow'rPitch must be securely packed away after use, out of reach of young children, to prevent possible entanglement in the cord.
