A superb pedestal 'gondola' vase made by Rand Ceramics in Johannesburg (in operation from the 1920s to the 1950s). All Rand Ceramics items have an incised or impressed number on the base, and sometimes also a black and silver paper sticker with an image of a teapot and the words "RAND CERAMICS". The number on this vase is 1080. The condition is excellent. Size: length 355 mm; height 145 mm; width 105 mm; weight 1.25 kg. The close-up photos below give a better idea of the subtlety of the glaze colours.
I have a large collection of Rand Ceramics ware and a photograph of this vase appears on page 262 of Scorched Earth by Wendy Gers, the definitive book on Southern African ceramics, published by Jacana Media in 2015.
Please ask for the shipping price BEFORE paying, as the SA Post Office rates will increase on 1/4/2018.
