Offered for sale is a fine, large Danish ceramic wall charger made by the company RAS dating to circa 1940's/50's ; the design is attributed to Ingeborg Rasmussen . This is a hand made piece, hand thrown from a red bodied clay . The charger is glazed in a rich buttermilk coloured base glaze hand painted in a bold expressionistic style. The motif painted on the plate is an exotic North African scene, possibly Moroccan with a woman in a djellaba type garment carrying water pots as the focal point . A donkey is pictured to the right of the figure and in the background adobe style architecture with palms. The charger is signed on the back with painted and incised marks RAS and Denmark hand painted , with an incised mark which appears to be initials CVB and an edition or form number 7/1. The RAS pottery studio was jointly owned and managed by the designers Ingeborg Rasmussen and Gens Gaarden. Charger is 38cm wide ; lying flat it measure 3.8cm high.
This is a substantial , large and heavy piece which would make a fine decorators item or focal point for a modernist or eclectic interior.
