JOHNSON BROTHERS (1883-2003): Johnson Brothers was a British tableware manufacturer and exporter that was noted for its early introduction of semi-porcelain tableware from the 1890s through the 1960s. The firm was, indeed, started by bothers. Two to start, then as time went on, the other two brothers joined in. The company's name derives from the names of the company's founders. The four original "Johnson Brothers" were Alfred, Frederick, Henry and Robert. The brothers were actually the grandsons of renowned English potter, Alfred Meakin, which no doubt helped to stir up interest in their new pottery venture. It did very well with the usual ups and downs during the wars until the sixties. They sold the company to Wedgwood in 1968, and they still used the Johnson Brothers name off and on until the early 2000s. Wedgwood moved production of the Johnson Brothers pieces to China in 2003. And when Fiskars acquired Waterford Wedgwood Group in 2015, that was the end of Johnson Brothers.
