This Vintage Cake Plate in the Suburbia Swirl Pattern by Anchor Hocking is also known as Golden Shell and is characterized by its translucent white milk glass, swirled or fluted body, and a 22k gold trim on the scalloped rim.
Produced by Anchor Hocking under their well-known Fire-King ovenware brand. These items were manufactured in the United States, primarily in Ohio. This style of dinnerware and serving pieces dates to the mid-century, around the 1960s.
Although there is no backstamp, it can be authentic Anchor Hocking Fire-King even without permanent embossed marks.
While most pieces are marked on the bottom, there are several reasons why yours might not be:
Foil Labels: Many pieces, especially those from the 1940s and 1950s or specific lines like "Charm" and "Alice," originally had foil stickers instead of embossed marks. These labels typically wash away or are removed by the owner over time. Worn Molds: As the metal moulds used to press the glass wore down, they were sometimes replaced with new ones that lacked the embossing, leading to authentic unmarked pieces being produced alongside marked ones. Early Production: Very early Anchor Hocking glass (pre-1937) was often not marked at all. Specific Patterns: Some patterns, like the Shell (also known as "Swirled English Regency") seen in your image, are frequently found unmarked or only marked with general terms like "HEAT RESISTANT".
