Large Royal Doulton 'Dickens Ware' Vase (Barkis)

This large, lovely shaped china vase, manufactured by Royal Doulton, is from the Dickens Ware series. The vase features 'Barkis', a stagecoach driver, from the novel 'David Copperfield' by Charles Dickens. He was known for his hopeful and often repeated phrase 'Barkis is willin' in his attempt to court 'Clara Peggotty'. This particular shape and colourway dates this vase to the 1930's. The base is stamped with the Royal Doulton and Dickens backstamp, as well as the pattern number 'D5175' and an impressed shape number '7995.' The vase is in excellent condition and stands 20cm high, with a diameter of 10.5cm at its widest and weighs 570g.
