Large Silver Victorian Vinaigrette (1855)
This large, fine quality, Victorian silver vinaigrette is in excellent condition with good hinges and a snug fitting lid and grill. It's rectangular in shape with scalloped edges and is beautifully decorated on both sides with hand engraved swirling acanthus leaves. The interior pierced grill features the same, finely engraved acanthus pattern with its original gilding on both sides. It was made in 1855 in Birmingham, England and stamped by the maker (FH&T), whom I haven't manged to trace, but a very similar mark (FH&F) 'Foxall, Hill & Foxall' of the same period in Birmingham made vinaigrettes. This is an unusually large vinaigrette of superb quality which measures 60mm x 30mm x 10mm and weighs 36g.
