Like all Roman clay pots, the roaster uses the tried-and-tested steam cooking principle: 
The lid is soaked in water before use, allowing the fine pores of the clay to retain water. When heated, a natural layer of steam forms inside, ensuring gentle cooking. The food remains juicy and evenly cooked entirely without the addition of fat or oil.
The natural clay distributes heat optimally and prevents hot spots, ensuring even browning. 
This makes every dish from tender meat and aromatic vegetables to homemade bread reliably and conveniently a success.

Based on the traditional Roman cooking method in the clay pot, the so-called "Roman pot" was launched in the 70s by Römertopf Keramik GmbH.
Cooking in a clay pot has a tradition in many country kitchens. 
In the Römertopf it is possible to cook food without the addition of liquid or grease, valuable ingredients are therefore fully preserved.
Condition: Very Good, no chips, cracks or crazing on the roaster, the pattern is in very good condition. Some minor scuff marks from packaging. The roaster has probably never been used.
