Large Traditional Wooden Swedish Dala Horse

Dating back hundreds of years carved out of wood scraps by tradesmen, it embodies a part of Sweden's National heritage and is one of the symbols of Sweden. There is legend that the Dala Horse became the National toy in 1716 after Swedish soldiers were forced to seek quarters in Dalarnian homes. The winter months were brutal in central Sweden & food was limited. The nights were cold & long, to pass time they would carve animals out of wood. The horse became the sign of good luck and were often given as gifts to their hosts for food or payment for room & board.
