Description: Large Vintage Hen on Nest Ceramic, William Kent Staffordshire Style.
Beautifully hand-painted vintage "Hen on Nest" lidded ceramic egg crock / tureen. Dating back to the mid-20th century, this lovely piece of kitchen country nostalgia is a high-quality vintage reproduction modelled directly after the iconic late-Victorian moulds of the William Kent factory in Burslem, Staffordshire.
It features a highly detailed Plymouth Rock-style grey and brown speckled nesting hen sitting atop a beautifully textured, amber-glazed woven basket-weave base. Because each piece from this era was individually hand-painted and finished, it carries wonderful cottage-core character. Note, this piece has No Makers Mark.
Origin Unknown, I suspect it to be England, 1960's-1970's.
Condition: The Base Bowl: Pristine exterior with a highly detailed, glazed wicker texture. The interior basin exhibits age-appropriate fine glaze crazing, which is a highly sought-after hallmark of genuine, time-aged vintage earthenware pottery. The lid sits securely and flush on the nest. Please note there are two minor cosmetic chips/flea bites on the inner contact rim lip from normal display use over the decades. These are entirely hidden from sight when the lid is resting on the base, keeping the exterior display aesthetic completely flawless. The lid features an original factory-moulded inner ventilation hole, designed to release steam/kiln pressure.
Visible Flaws: Minor age-related wear, to be expected.
