LARGE VINTAGE BALTIC AMBER STERLING SILVER RING

Real baltic amber has always been a wonderful and popular material for jewellers. Referred to as a "gemstone" it is in fact a natural fossilised tree resin, dating back literally millions of years.  This fabulously large and eye-catching piece features a raised rounded oval Baltic amber cabochon. Smoothly polished and very domed, the gemstone sits a marvellous 12mm above the finger. Bezel set in vintage sterling silver, the amber has deep honeyed hue, with fascinating inclusions creating a complete world within. The colour contrast with the icy silver is stark, which makes the amber colour really pop. The ring head measures 18mm across x 26.5mm long. The piece weighs a hefty 8.5 grams. The simple design with the glorious colour adds up to a striking piece! It is vintage and part of a personal collection from Budapest in Hungary, collected from a vintage jeweller there.
