Large vintage Sidrena ships anchor lantern. I would date this ships anchor lantern to the first half of the 1900s. It is manufactured from copper and brass, and as its name suggests, it is a 360 degree light which would be displayed at the highest point of the ship at night while at anchor. It would be lit and hoisted to the top of the mast with one rope tied to the handle, and 2 ropes through the brass guides to keep it from swaying as the ship rolled with the sea. It has a Fresnel style lens made to magnify the oil lamp light to be visible from a distance. It is large and heavy, measuring 38cm x 20cm. It is in good condition and has a time honed patina, but could be polished to a high shine. Great display item.
