Known as the "evening" stone, Kunzite was discovered in 1902 and named after G.F. Kunz - Tiffany's chief gemologist at the time.
It is not available in large quantities and demand amongst people in the know has increased dramatically in the last few years. It is now a very pricey gem on the market and much prized by gem collectors.
The pavilion (back facets) of most Kunzite is deep and this is to take advantage of colour intensity. The colour and depth combine to give a sensuous and luxurious look to the gem. Kunzite has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Kunzite is either pink to pink purple Spodumene which also includes a green variety of gemstone known as Hiddenite. This stunning gemstone is Yellow HIDDENITE.
