'In die juweel van die Karoo, het Ouma Dina en Oupa Matt hulle woning gevestig, tussen die fyn sinnigheid van fretwork en hortjies wat hulle kontoere oor eeue-oue huisies gooi. Die nostalgie van 'n donkiekar met 'n vrag kinders wat om die rond-om-talie speel en rond-dwaal in die Vallei van Verlatenheid, is maar net 'n paar oomlike van inspirasie van Graaff-Reinet.'
