THIS GEMSTONE IS A HUGE 185,55CT (37.11G PLEASE SEE PHOTO MULTIPLY WEIGHT BY 5 TO GET CARATS) ROYAL BLUE SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE WITH AN OVAL FACETTED COBOCHON CUT. NOTE THIS IS THE LAST OF THESE GIGANTIC SAPPHIRE GEMSTONES I HAVE SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE A LARGE CHUNK OF CONUNDRUM SAPPHIRE THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE!

NOTE THIS WEEK I HAVE 26 GEMSTONES ON AUCTION. IT WILL BE THE LAST BATCH FOR A WHILE. TAKE THIS CHANCE TO BUY THE GEMSTONES YOU LIKE. VARIOUS SAPPHIRES, SOME GARNETS AND SPINELS, TWO TANZANITES, A BLUE DIAMOND THAT PINGS THE MIZAR DIAMOND TESTER, A ONE OF A KIND BOULDER OPAL FROM AUSTRALIA, A NATURAL AMBER CUT GEMSTONE AND MORE. ALL MY AUCTIONS END AT 22H30 SO IT IS ADVISABLE TO PUT IN AN AUTOMATIC BID (HIGHEST PRICE YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY) EARLY.

THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT ONLINE ON EBAY IN 2011 FROM A SELLER FROM THE ARABIAN PENINSULA. THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN WAS INDICATED AS INDIA. IT HAS AN OBAQUE CLARITY WHICH MEANS ONE CANNOT SEE THROUGH IT WITH THE NAKED EYE. IT WAS ALSO INDICATED TO HAVE HEAT COLOR ENHANCEMENT. THIS CAN ENTAIL ANY OF VARIOUS DIFFERENT METHODS WHICH WAS NOT INDICATED.

TESTS PERFORMED:
PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 6. FOR SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES A LEVEL OF 6 TO 7 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER.
(WITH THIS TESTER GLASS 0,002, TANZANITE, TITANITE AND TOURMALINE MAKES NO MOVEMENT, AQUAMARINE AND EMERALD LIE INBETWEEN AND CAN GIVE A LEVEL OF 3 OR 4. QUARTZ 0,026, GARNETS, SPINELS 0,028 AND KUNSITE GIVES A THERMAL OF 4, TOPAZ 0,04 GIVES A THERMAL OF 5. RUBIES AND SAPPHIRE 0,08 GIVES A THERMAL OF 6 TO 7.)

SIZE: 33,2mm x 16.0mm

MY PERSONAL CONCLUSION REGARDING THIS GEMSTONE:
IT WAS INDICATED THAT THIS HUGE GEMSTONE WAS NATURAL SAPPHIRE THAT WAS HEAT COLOUR ENHANCED. THE METHOD USED WAS NOT INDICATED BUT CAN BE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING.
IT CAN BE CHATHUM DIFFUSED (Chatham  is a technique whereby certain natural elements are placed on the surface of the gem during the heating and or growth process and the colour is diffused into the gem.) IT MIGHT ALSO BE DYED COLOR-ENHANCED BY INTRODUCING DYE INTO THE SURFACE REACHING FISSURES TO GET THE BLUE COLOR OF LESS VALUABLE CLEAR OR LIGHTER BLUE CORUNDUM THE MINERAL OF SAPPHIRE.
NONETHELES THIS APPEARS INDEED TO BE A REAL SYNTHETIC OR NATURAL SAPPHIRE AS THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST INDICATE IT SHOWS A HIGH LEVEL 6 THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY CHARACTERISTIC OF SAPPHIRE. IT IS STILL REAL SAPPHIRE AND HAS ALL THE MNINERAL PROPERTIES OF SAPPHIRE.
MY CONCLUSION:  IT IS PROPABLY LOW GRADE NATURAL COLOURLESS CONUNDRUM SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE THAT HAS BEEN HEAT COLOR ENHANCED MOST PROPABLY DYED COLOR ENHANCED

DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT AND NONE OF THE PRELIMERY TESTS I COULD PERFORM (SCRATCH TEST; UV TEST; THERMAL TEST) CAN CONFIRM THIS GEMSTONES NATURE AND PROPERTIES. THIS GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. ADVANCED INTRUMENTS ARE NEEDED TO DISTINGUISH ONE GEMSTONE FROM ANOTHER AND TO CONFIRM IF IT IS NATURAL OR LAB MADE.

SAPPHIRE:
Sapphire is one of the four precious gemstones amongst Rubies, Diamond and Emerald. Sapphire rank 9 on the Mohs scale of Hardness. Only a diamond can scratch sapphire. Sapphire is all the colours of the corundum mineral except red, which is the color of the ruby. CORUNDUM IS RELATIVELY COMMON IN NATURE, AND IS COMPLETELY COLOURLESS. Small amounts of metallic elements such as Cr, Fe and Ti can substitute for aluminum in the structure, which gives rise to many colour variations in sapphire.
Historically production of sapphire has been from Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, India and Sri Lanka (Ceylon). More recent important sources include East African countries of Madagascar, Tanzania and Mozambique.
Corundum was the first gem mineral to be synthesized in the lab by a process known today as flame fusion and flux growth. Synthetic sapphire has been produced commercially since 1902. Since both natural and synthetic sapphires come from the same mineral corundum, lab-created gems are essentially the same as their natural counterpart, with the same visual qualities and hardness.
The color and clarity of rubies and sapphires is also commonly enhanced by heat treatment. Such processes are probably today the rule rather than the exception. THE EASIEST WAY TO TELL BETWEEN A NATURAL AND LAB-CREATED SAPPHIRE IS THE FLAWLESSNESS. Natural sapphires will have small inclusions or flaws throughout the stone if you look closely. However, lab-created gems are clean and flawless.
