Hardcover with dust jacket. Solidly bound. Blue linen boards with gilt lettering to spine. First published in 1938 by Longmans, Green and Co with 286 pages, illustrated with seven plates. D/j has small tear at spine top, price clipped. Signature of previous owner on inside of front board and on front end page. In 1888 John Bird issued two volumes of Annals of Natal, embracing the period between the Portuguese discovery and the establishment of British authority. Based on more materials collected by John's son, Christopher Bird, Alan Hattersley compiled this volume, published in 1938, titled "Later Annals of Natal". Fascinating study of the Natal Province of South Africa from 1865 to 1900. The text surveys British expansion in Natal. A good copy in good condition of a scarce publication. No shipping overseas.
