Original Lebowa Police Officers cap badge featuring the trilingual Polisie / Maphodisa / Police inscription and homeland coat of arms.
This listing is for an original Lebowa Police Officers cap badge from the former South African homeland of Lebowa, a self-governing territory during the apartheid era. The Lebowa Police served until 27 April 1994, when all homeland police forces were incorporated into the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The badge follows the classic multi-pointed star design and clearly displays the name of the force in three languages:
Polisie (Afrikaans)
Maphodisa (Northern Sotho)
Police (English)
The bottom scroll reads Lebowa.
The central emblem shows a shield supported by two animals, likely leopards, taken directly from the Lebowa coat of arms registered for the Lebowa Legislative Assembly. These badges have become increasingly collectable as symbols of a significant transitional period in South African history.
A strong addition for collectors of homeland police insignia, SAPS predecessors, or South African transitional-era artefacts.
