Power Saving Mode seems to only become active when using battery power, when the unit is using USB power the unit doesn’t automatically dim or go blank.

This unit uses battery power very intensively and will deplete a new set of 4 x AAA batteries in approximately 5 days of continuous use, therefore, we highly recommend using the USB power cable to power the unit and keep 4 x AAA batteries inserted as backup.
