LED lights have a lifespan of 30 000 to 80 000 hours. As an average, just how long is 50 000 hours?
50,000 hours lit for 24 hours per day will last over 5 and a half years.
50,000 hours lit for 12 hours per day will last for over 11 years.
50,000 hours lit for 8 hours per day will last for over 17 years.
50,000 hours lit for 4 hours per day will last for over 34 years.
The life of these solid state lighting products is expected to be about 50 times the most common incandescent bulbs.
Therefore, the need for replacement of LED lights is expected to be minimal.
LED Lighting has the following benefits:
Long-lasting - LED bulbs last up to 10 times as long as compact fluorescents, and far longer than typical incandescent lights.
1. Durable - since LED lights do not have a filament, they are not damaged under circumstances when a regular incandescent bulb would be broken. Because they are solid, LED bulbs hold up well to jarring and bumping.
2. Cool - these bulbs do not cause heat build-up; LED lights produce 3.4btu/hour, compared to 85btu/hour for incandescent bulbs.
3. Mercury-free - no mercury is used in the manufacturing of LED lights.
4. More efficient - LED light bulbs use only 2-10 watts of electricity (1/3rd to 1/30th of Incandescent or CFL)
5. Not sensitive to being switched on and off a lot.
6. Most maintenance and replacement costs are eliminated.
7. Cost-effective - although LED lights are more expensive, the cost is recouped over in a short period of time.
8. For the AC bulbs and large cluster arrays, the best value comes from commercial use where maintenance and replacement costs are expensive.
9. Light for remote areas - because of the low power requirement for LEDs, using solar panels becomes more practical and less expensive than running an electric line or using a generator for lighting.
10. LED bulbs are available in 'cool' white light, which is ideal for task lighting, and 'warm' light, commonly used for accent or small area lighting.
