These TWO bayonets are being sold as ONE lot
There is a fairly contemporary story to how I acquired these.
I served in the Rhodesian Army as a regular soldier and a friend in the Engineers told me that they had all these bayonets that they were using as a kind of punji trap on the border defences. He said they were casting concrete slabs and placing these bayonets in them at an angle to snag anyone unwary enough to run across no man's land.
I was intrigued and said I had been trying to get a couple for my pub for a while. It may have been then or the next time saw him but he gave me these two bayonets that had been condemned to an ignominious end. I have had them for about 38 years now and am selling up and relocating.
NO, I do not have scabbards for them and apart from the markings shown in the pictures I know nothing more about them. One is marked SANDERSON and I assumed both were but I cannot read the makers name on the other.
This one has stamping on the tang of the weapon but the maker's name is not visible.
The one below is marked Sanderson
