This item is a Legion of Frontiersmen (LOF) collar badge, representing the post-1927 pattern adopted by the organisation. The design features a central cross, sunburst, a mural crown (stylised city-wall crown) at the top, and a lower scroll reading FRONTIERSMEN.

The Legion of Frontiersmen was founded in London in 1904 as a volunteer auxiliary force to act on behalf of the Crown throughout the British Empire. The Legion maintained branches in several territories including Natal and the Cape Colony in South Africa, as well as Canada, Australia, New Zealand and others.

The LOF originally aimed to provide scouts, guides and intelligence in support of Imperial operations, and during the First World War raised a battalion which saw service in East Africa. The post-1927 insignia was introduced to avoid confusion with the badges of regular British regiments.
