CASSINOPSIS ILLICIFOLIA - Known as Lemon Thorn Tree 

This is a brilliant tree for all gardens.  The roots are non aggressive, so you can plant near the house or in a container on your stoep or a water feature.  This can be grown as a small tree, about 4 meters, or used as a thorny hedge.    

It is a great water wise plant that can be situated in the Sun or Semi Shade. It flowers little white flowers in the summer. The fruit is looks like a miniature lemon, and is edible, but does not taste great for human consumption.  It is NOT poisonous to your pets and children.  It will attract many birds to your garden, to eat the fruit, as well as a favourite for nesting in the branches.  Feed and protect the local wild life, birds, butterflies, and small mammals the way nature intended with a beautiful indigenous tree.  This tree will need protecting from severe frost.
