Leonitis Leonurus (lion's tail, klip dagga, wild dagga) is part of the Lamiaceae family. This large, soft-woody, fast-growing, broadleaf evergreen shrub is native to South Africa and well known for treating a great number of medical conditions.
Infusions made from the bright orange flowers, seeds, leaves or stems are used to treat TB, Jaundice, muscle cramps, high blood pressure, diabetes, viral hepatitis, dysentery and diarrhea. It is also used as an emetic for snakebites, bee and scorpion stings.
The plant is very hardy, drought and frost resistant and can be grown as a perennial or as an annual self seeder.
The Leonitis Leonurus is also loved as food and nectar providers to sunbirds, bees and butterflies.
