SIGNED & DATED, 1990, Lettie Gardiner, acrylic on hand-made paper and canvas, , original,  122 cms x 92 cms, condition: very good.

Also signed & dated on reverse of canvas.

Gardiner produced the thick, course rigid hand-made paper, onto which she painted her figures and laid onto a stretched canvas.

Lettie Gardiner was born in Heilbron, Free State and studied Fine Art at the University of Natal. She was closely associated with the Johannesburg the Art Foundation; with the founder, Bill Ainslie frequently invited her to participate in exhibitions. She and the Ainslies'  were good house friends.

Lettie Gardiner held her first one-person exhibition in Johannesburg at Gallery 101 in 1971 and since then has participated in numerous group shows and has held a number of solo exhibitions.
