Lettuce Saladin is an outstanding crisp/iceberg variety and a popular choice for the market grower and amateur. Highly recommended and often called the best 'Iceberg' available on the market, it is most probably the Iceberg you will find on your local grocers shelf.

Lettuce Saladin produces compact plants with dense well wrapped heads that give good leaf protection. With crisp, tasty green leaves over dense hearts the plants grow to medium to large size and hold remarkably well when ready. With resistance to bolting and leaf rot it is very suitable for spring and summer planting.

Sown spring onwards into summer the plants will be ready for harvesting in 8 to 10 weeks. Sow successionally for cropping right through to autumn. Saladin is suitable for closer spacing and adapts to patio pots, grow bags and containers.

The lettuce will be ready as soon as a firm heart has formed, you can test to see if they ready for harvesting by gently squeezing the top of the plant. For the best lettuce experience, pick early in the morning and refrigerate for eating the same day. This gives the maximum amount of flavour, freshness and nutrients.

13/9/2017, These have excellent vigor.  We did a germination test, at a temperature of about 22 degrees C, I have had a 80% germination in 24 hours, 92 % after 36 hours, and 100 % after 48 hours.  On a second germination test, using a seedling tray and seedling soil, we had a 100% germination, after 7 days.
