Growing Instructions

 

Scatter Liatris spicata seeds over the prepared bed in early spring, as soon as frost danger is past in cool arear or in a heated propogator.  Instead of covering the seeds, press them gently into the soil.  Mist the seedbed and keep it moist but not wet, until the seeds germinate.  Daytime temperatures should be 20 degrees and nightime temperature about 15 degrees for optimum germination.  Germination may take up to 3 weeks.

 

Liatris prefers a soild with consistent moisture but not soggy roots

 

This variety, Kolbold produces deep purple flower heads 45 to 70cm long.  Grows to a height of around 1.5 meters and a spread of around 45cm.  Full hardy to -15 degrees and under.

 

Problem with ants - pour vinegar down the ant holes and use diatomaceous earth.
