 LIMA DELTIC D9003 Class 55 MELD

In good working order - recently serviced and tested.
Runs very well.

Missing 1 1/2 buffers (typical Lima!)

 

D9003 was made around 1960 by English Electric as a batch of 22 originally tested by BR they were still the property of the manufacturer; they did not pass to BR till later. With a total BHP 3,300 it was powered by two Napier ‘Deltic’ 18 cyl engines of 1650 BHP The transmission was by 6 axle hung nose-suspended traction motors. The weight was 106 tons, driving wheels 3’7”, maximum tractive effort 60,000lb. Later named Meld  it was registered English Electric 2908, Vulcan Foundry D560 27th March 1961 and originally allocated to Finsbury Park. Named at Doncaster on 7th July 1961 ‘MELD’ in recognition of a racehorse filly owned by Lady Zia Wernher. Typical running was Edinburgh Waverley to London Kings Cross. Withdrawn December 1980 she was scrapped in March the following year.
