The Common Obverse of the 2010 Natura coin depict a mature Black Rhinoceros ( Diceros Bicornis ) walking on the path "2010 South Africa ". The Black Rhino appears to be walking into an uncertain future as a result of the resurgence of poaching.
The reverse of the coin features a Black Rhino portrait in the shadow of itself. The Black Rhino is on the brink of extinction and it needs a concerted effort to protect this wonderful animal from disappearing from the planet.
The names Black and White Rhino are misleading as the two are not distinguishable by colour. The White Rhino is a mistranslation of the Dutch word wijd for wide referring to its square upper lip as opposed to the pointed lip of the Black Rhino.
