2011 CLIMATE CHANGE COMMEMORATIVE SET
EDITION: 300
This set features:

2011 R1 silver Protea coin depicting JM Coetzee. Plus “A” over strike mint mark for Adelaide (where the coin was launched).

The 1/2 oz pure gold medallion featuring Antarctica on the reverse and celebrating the 100 Year Anniversary of the Discovery of the South Pole. “H2O” features as a privy mark on the obverse of the medallion.

The launch of this commemoration set, on 22 October 2011 at the David Tlale Fashion event held in the SA Mint factory, was the first of the South African Mint's initiatives which will focus on Antarctica and the earth's changing climate and to raise funds for the Race to the Pole which was completed in January by Braam Malherbe and Peter von Kets to help drive Climate Change awareness.
