Offered for sale is an attractive small Linn Ware posy vase in the iconic turquoise /sea green glaze the company is famous for and which has become synonymous with its high quality hand made ceramics dating to the mid 20th Century. This is a hand thrown vase with a squat round bulbous body and trumpet like flaring neck with a small round foot-ring. The art historian Wendy Gers in her seminal book Scorched Earth 100 Years of Southern African Potteries points out that the famous Linn Ware turquoise green glazes were achieved by a double-glazing process ie the ceramics were glazed and fired twice in the kiln to achieve the rich lustrous luminosity of colour , a time consuming and laborious process. This vase is marked with the LW studio monogram painted in white oxide on the base and a faint imprinted  " hut" or lidded jar mark which was a transitional mark used in the 1940's. Linn Ware ceramics were made at Olifantsfontein north-east of Johannesburg between 1934 and the early 1960s when the company closed .The Linn Ware posy vase is 8.3cm high;  the width of the bulbous lower body of the vase is 7cm. The width of the top open aperture is 7cm.  Postage is R100 via Postnet or R140 for courier delivery to major cities in SA. Collection is welcome from Emmerantia Jhb.
