What is Ubuntu Linux?
Linux is a free (as in free speach), open-source operating system that can be used as an alternative to Microsoft Windows. Ubuntu is one of the most popular linux-based operating systems for Desktop and laptop computers, due to its speed, reliability and ease of use.
How easy is it to install?
This DVD includes a "live" verson of Ubuntu which lets you try the operating system on your machine without needing to install it! A new feature of Ubuntu 8.04 called "Wubi" also allows you to install Ubuntu inside Windows so you don't need to worry about partitioning or the possibility of losing you data. When you do choose to fully install it, a very simple wizard will walk you through the process.
What's on the DVD?
The DVD includes the basic Ubuntu system with all software necessary for web browsing, emailing, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and instant messaging. It also includes over 3 gigabytes of additional, easy-to-install software including: Educational software, games, office software, internet applications, programming tools and multimedia.
