A stemless, slow-growing succulent that forms a tight rosette of thick, waxy, apple-neon green leaves. The defining feature is the striking, irregular crimson or brick-red edges and terminal spine, which become more vibrant when the plant is exposed to bright sunlight or cooler temperatures.
Origin: It is native to rocky, arid regions of Central Mexico.
The 'Lipstick' Echeveria is primarily an ornamental plant valued for its aesthetic appeal and low maintenance.
It is an excellent choice for rock gardens, succulent gardens, Mediterranean-themed gardens, or xeriscaping (landscaping that requires little to no irrigation) due to its drought tolerance.
Its compact size and striking form make it ideal for small or medium-sized decorative pots, container plantings, and as a houseplant on a bright windowsill.
The rosettes can be used in unique applications like living jewelry (pendants, brooches), miniature gardens, or as inspiration for art and photography.
Agave species have a history in traditional medicine (e.g., sap for wounds and burns) and for food products like agave nectar/syrup.
Light: Thrives in full sun to bright, indirect light. Plenty of sun exposure is key to developing its vibrant red "lipstick" edges.
Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix with added perlite or pumice to prevent root rot.
Watering: Use the "soak and dry" method. Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry out completely between watering. Water sparingly in winter when the plant is dormant.
Temperature & Humidity: Prefers warm temperatures (ideally 1827°C) and low to medium humidity. It is not very frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.
Maintenance: Low maintenance. Prune only to remove dead or damaged leaves or spent flower stalks.
