This is a compact, sturdy, beautifully-designed, albeit pricey [indeed!] field-worthy bird guide. It provides excellent field information for most all New Zealand species. The Derek Onley plates are such exquisite and unique water-color renderings that many, as separate prints, would surely be worthy of framing. This lovely and highly informative NZ bird guide deserves 5 stars, in my opinion, both because of its easy field utility and as a natural history book-collector's acquisition.
