Lithops is a genus of succulent plants in the ice plant family, Aizoaceae. Members of the genus are native to southern Africa. The name is derived from the Ancient Greek words lithos, meaning "stone," ops, meaning "face," referring to the stone-like appearance of the plants. They avoid being eaten by blending in with surrounding rocks and are often known as pebble plants or living stones. The formation of the name from the Greek "-ops" means that even a single plant is called a Lithops.

Lithops salicola has two coupled leaves, divided by a fissure through which the flowers appear. It is cylindrical or conical with a flat surface and green-grey coloration. Their flowers are white and very small. It grows to a height of .02 metres. This species can be found in Namibia and South Africa at an altitude of 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) to 1,350 metres (4,430 ft). They are generally found in well-drained soil or in rock crevices. It has also been used as a houseplant or for landscaping.
