Native to Hawaii, it has been known to do well in most south African conditions especially in the Natal Coastal regions with its sub tropical climate. It likes rich soil and regular applications of fertilizer during the spring and summer. Keep well watered during hot periods. Likes medium shade but can take full sun. Popular as a tropical or subtropical patio or courtyard landscape item.
