Lobularia maritima or Sweet Alyssum "Carpet of Snow" as it is commonly known is an outstanding, quick flowering, low border plant. This fragrant garden favorite produces masses of purple blooms. Flowers are white florets, 6mm wide, in 2.5-5cm wide clusters. The plant is old-fashioned sweet, honey-like fragrance and delicate beauty. Early-blooming plants blanket the ground with thimble-shaped clusters of white blossoms all season. It is a low spreading compact plant 5-10cm high, and it is densely covered with sweetly-scented, white flowers. Leaves are medium green in color. Very free flowering. Perfect for lining walkways, borders, edgings, in rock gardens, between paving stones, and for containers or in window boxes. The plant is ideal for combining with other annuals in flower beds and baskets. The plant attracts butterflies and bees.
