This limited edition is a faithful facsimile of a stirring work which has not been available since the early 1900s. This splendid account was written by Sir Winston Churchill while he was a journalist during the fierce battle for control of Natal during the Boer War. He recounts vividly his personal experiences during the campaign including the account of his capture and dramatic escape from P.O.W. camp in Pretoria. His patriotic yet fair-minded appreciation of his Boer captors is of great historical interest, as is his evaluation of the British commanders who were trying to break the siege of Ladysmith in very difficult circumstances. The fine tribute dedicating the book to the staff of the Natal Government Railways is of particular interest to Natal readers, and all who have been fascinated by the brave deeds depicted in this outstanding volume.
