A loofa sponge as it is commonly known. The luffa plant is a member of the gourd family. It grows as a flowering annual vine.
The pollinated flowers grow cylindrical green fruits that eventually develop into a fibrous seed pod. Luffa can be harvested before maturity and eaten as a vegetable or wait until mature and dry, it can be used as a bath or kitchen sponge.
¿It is a warm season climbing plant. Contains vitamin C. Powdered luffa has also been used in Chinese herbal medicine.
How to grow: Sow the seeds in a well-drained and fertile soils in full sun, keep soils moist. Provide trellis or plant along the fence. Require only little water but regular watering.
