The Loquat (Eriobotrya Japonica) is a large evergreen shrub or tree, grown commercially for it's orange fruit and for it's leaves for tea, as well as an ornamental plant.
The Loquat has a high sugar, acid and pectin content and is eaten as a fresh fruit, it also mixes well with other fruits in fresh salads. The fruit is commonly used to make jam, jelly and chutney and is often served poached in light syrup.
Loquat is low in sodium and high in vitamin A, Vitamin B6, dietary fiber, potassium and manganese.
