From the deceased estate of South African artist and writer, Johannes Meintjes; from signed books with Johannes Meintjes 'ex libris' paste-downs, to books with personal dedications to his wife, to hand-written letters addressed to 'Oom Johannes', to photos of JM, brochures and menus of events and cruises that they attended, to his art-expo catalogues with footnotes, a 4pp hand-written Manuscript 'Syfergat, a vanished hamlet' and a 13pp Typescript 'A visit to Aunt Victoria', etc.
Of particular interest to collectors of Johannes Meintjes paintings is the 1934 1st Ed book by Max Doerner, 'THE MATERIALS OF THE ARTIST AND THEIR USE IN PAINTING'. A unique book in that there are several pencilled underlinings by JM in the book, particularly in the chapter on 'Pigments'. No doubt this is where JM obtained his recipes for many of the vibrant colours that are so typical of his paintings. There is some pigment staining to the rear cover that would suggest that this book was close at hand whilst the artist was at work.
