Really classy Carousel model of one of motor racing's seminal cars the 1965 Lotus 38 Indy Car. Discontinued and now unavailable.
The first rear-engined car to win Indianapolis 500 driven by the legendary Jim Clark. The car set a never-ending trend of rear-engined Indy cars. 1964 was the last win for a front-engined Indy car.
It also bucked the trend of using 4-cyl Offenhauser turbo engines long dominant in Indianapolis races using a 4.2litre naturally aspirated Ford V8, complete with iconic and memorable matt yellow exhausts! Finished in classic British Racing Green with the signature Lotus yellow flash.
The Lotus 38 also went on to inspire the Lotus 49 which won the F1 World Championship in 1968 with Graham Hill during the late 1960/70s when there was still cross-fertilisation between Indy cars and F1.
This model is increasing rare and difficult to find and now very pricey (check eBay). Carousel made a wonderful model range of American centred cars in its heyday. A great collectors piece for any Indycar/American; historic racecar; Lotus/Clark fan. Can also display well in an F1 collection alongside the Lotus 49 for comparison.
In mint condition and presented in a beautiful exhibition box complete with an external white protective sleeve.
