Louis and Victoria were not particularly important in the great scheme of things, but they were related to most royalties in Europe and were in the midst of some of the biggest happenings of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They had extremely strong characters and had to stay strong when their family was torn apart by the First World War and Victoria's sisters killed in the Russian revolution.

This book is priceless not for the writing style (it's not exactly my favourite - reads a little "novel-y" sometimes, which I tend to dislike) but because Richard Hough had access to the family archives and interviewed Louis & Victoria's son and many of their grandchildren (including Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Queen Elizabeth II) and other family members. So the information found here is truly unique and special.
