LOVE IN PRACTICE: THE GOSPEL IN SOLENTINAME

by Ernesto Cardenal

Condition: Good, jacket bright, edges shlef wear consistent with age, pages clean and tight spine

About the Book
Love in Practice presents a profound experiment in communal faith and social justice, set within the small Nicaraguan archipelago of Solentiname on Lake Nicaragua. Founded by Ernesto Cardenal, the community became both a monastic centre and a collective of peasant artists, fishers, and farmers a living embodiment of the Gospel among the poor.

Each Sunday, Scripture was read aloud and discussed collectively. The reflections and insights of these villagers, recorded by Cardenal, form the heart of this book. Their commentaries are simple, radical, and transformative reading Christs words through the lens of daily struggle, dignity, and hope.

The result is a theology of liberation in its most organic form: the Gospel as lived experience, not doctrine. Cardenals framing of these voices reveals a revolutionary tenderness a merging of poetry, faith, and resistance to oppression.

About the Author
Ernesto Cardenal (19252020) was a Nicaraguan poet, priest, and revolutionary theologian. Educated in Mexico and the United States, he studied under Thomas Merton at the Trappist monastery of Gethsemani, Kentucky, before returning to Nicaragua to found the Solentiname community in 1965. Cardenal became a leading voice of liberation theology and later served as Minister of Culture in the Sandinista government. His works The Gospel in Solentiname, The Music of the Spheres, and Flights of Victory combine mystical faith with political conscience.
