The book "Love Story" written by Erich Segal became a world wide hit. Before writing the book - while Erich was a student at Harvard University - he wrote a series of letters to Denise.
Raymond Sagov, the industrialist father of Denise, lived in Fresnay in Cape Town and was friends with Erich's father who was a Rabbi.
In the letters Erich describes in some detail the inner workings of Harvard. He went on to visit Denise in Cape Town.
A careful reading of the letters reveals an understading of what motivated the writing of the book. In effect the letters could be seen as an outline for "Love Sory". They are both informative and provocative. The first letter ends "Sincerely Erich Segal" and as familiarity sets in it transmutes to "Love Erich"
There are 6 letters comprising 13 pages of writing - some crammed with information on large pages. Some are handwritten, some are typed and all are signed. Included is a draft of a letter by Denise addressed to Big Berns (presumably a friend of Erich)
The letters are beautifully written and unpublished. They are authentic. The letters have a rock-solid provenance. They were stored in a box for 50 years.
The book is included with the letters.
